LEN MESSINEO

Len is a dedicated nature and wildlife photographer whose expertise and knowledge developed after retirement from his manufacturing business in 1992.

He has won numerous awards and citations in the Chicago area and was rewarded Photographer of the Year honors in the highly respected Riverwoods Nature Photographic Society, where he also served as President. The Chicago Area Camera Clubs Association (CACCA) also recognized Len’s accomplishments with various awards, including First Place in Nature Photography competition and a special achievement citation, TOPS in CACCA.

More recently he was recipient of the Kohout Nature Award, one of the most prestigious awards of CACCA.

Len conducts many slide lectures in various parts of the country. His programs are designed to educate, entertain, and promote nature and have been described as dramatic, superb, and often garnished with a unique blend of subtle humor.

Through the channels of photography, programs, workshops and exhibits, a central theme is revealed: a desire to inspire reverence and encourage concern for the environment and its endangered inhabitants.

NOTE FROM THE ARTIST

After two decades of photographing nature in all its glory and complexity, I asked myself, “What goals have I pursued and how can I share the results with friends, relatives, associates and others?”

My goals came one at a time as revealed by an increasing breadth of knowledge and intimacy with photography and the natural world.

Briefly, these efforts began with competitions via slides and prints, then continued with slide show programs featuring nature topics. The programs continue to be a major source of enjoyment and interplay with a wide variety of audiences.

Along the pathway I discovered an acceptable ability to write and provide images for several publications. Exhibitions of photographic art in galleries, libraries and other venues followed, as well as conducting nature photography workshops.

To share these endeavors and communicate my ideas and interpretations of nature, I have chosen the magic of cyberspace… this web site. Please indulge me by exploring the art and soul of this nature photographer.
